| The Scout and Guide Shop ( Scout and Guide Supplies ) is one of the largest retailers of both Scout and Guide uniforms in the UK. It is wholly owned and financed by Sheffield Scouts and all its profits are used in supporting Scouts and Guides. As well as its various Internet sites he company maintains a full time ( Tuesday to Saturday ) retail shop situated in the centre of Sheffield. The company was formed in 1922 as the Equipment Department of the Scout District of Sheffield. When, in 1939 the District obtained its own freehold headquarters in the centre of the City, retail space was incorporated within it. Through the 50's and 60's the shop was expanded into a full retail shop and the complete range of Guide products was added. In recognition of this the trading title was altered to Sheffield Scout and Guide Shop. In an effort to develop the shops trading outside the movements the title was changed again in the 1996 to SGS Outdoors. Why SGS ? "Scout and Guide Supplies" or "Serving Guides and Scouts". The growth of our sales to both movements over the internet and E-Bay led us to re-consider our title and business and at 1st April 2010 the company became The Scout and Guide Shop The company has a long experience in mail order and web trading. Over the years the Scouting grapevine brought customers to us from many parts of the UK and overseas. We launched our first web site in 2002 and this was re-vamped under the "sgs-outdoors" title in 2005 in a format designed to assist leaders. A further dedicated site for Scout Centenary products was added in 2007 and an E-Bay shop opened trading under the title of "Scout and Guide Supplies". 3 major full E-Commerce web sites were added to the operation in 2008. The company is owned by the Scout movement in Sheffield and all the proceeds from its operation are used for the benefit of the movement. The shop, which specialises in Scout and Guide products, offers the complete range from both movements and holds substantial stocks of the main items in both ranges. This includes the full range of uniform items for both Air and Sea Scouts. A stock of over 70.000 badges is permanently maintained in order to provide a same day service for leaders and badge secretaries. In addition to uniform items we stock a wide range of general outdoor clothing and camping equipment especially suitable for young people. We also offer a range of selected items to support and assist Leaders in providing exciting meetings and activities. As a support for mail order customers our charges for postage and packing for small and lightweight orders are proportionate to the actual weight basis rather than a minimum charge. The prices for all badges include a postage and packing charge, which is also geared to small cost of mailing out orders for these lightweight items. We provide credit accounts for Scout and Guide Groups and Sections as well as for individual warranted Scout and Guide leaders. Applications for opening account should be made to the Shop Manager. As an incentive for customers and a reward for Groups/Sections we operate a Loyalty Bonus Scheme. All sales are provided with a duplicate receipt, which can be collected by Groups and sections and exchanged on a regular basis for vouchers.
